Teaching Assistant: Fall 2021 – Instructor: John Hajda, Ph.D.
Guest Lecturer: Fall 2022 – A Journey Through the Auditory System. Topics included auditory nerve function, place coding, phase locking, ascending and descending auditory pathways, and cortical processing of sound.
PSY120L: Lab in Advanced Research Methods
An experimental psychology lab course where students learn formulating their own research questions, develop procedures, analyze data and present their results (as a research paper and a poster presentation) at the end of the quarter.
Spring 2024, Instructor: Katerina Ford, Ph.D.
PSY113L: Complex Systems
Introduces complexity theory in neurobiology and cognitive neuroscience where simple rules can give rise to emergent and complex behaviors. Topics include networks, cellular automata, chaos theory and fractals. The course includes hands-on computer modeling using Mathematica, with students developing coding skills as part of this course.

Student Feedback —Here are some anonymous feedback from students based on official course evaluations at UCSB.
“Selin is without a doubt one of the best TA's, or really instructors in general, I've had at any of the schools I've been to. She is an extremely passionate and talented Brain Scientist and is always trying her best to make sure everyone understands the content at hand and feels comfortable asking any questions they might have.” — PSY113L Complex Systems, Winter 2023.
“Selin was a great TA, she made the material very understandable and in the case that it wasn't, she made sure she would review it and describe it in a way we could understand.. — PSY10B Statistics, Fall 2024.
“Very helpful and clearly well prepared for section. Knowledgeable on course material and created a friendly learning environment :).” — PSY113L Complex Systems, Winter 2023.
“Selin was very willing to help us and answer any questions we had. I really appreciated how when we’d ask a question and she did not know the answer, she would be honest and would be diligent to try and find an answer or give us resources to help. It was obvious she cared about her students and their success. The only thing that I think could be minority improved was getting more engagement from students, but it was extremely difficult because it was a 9am section. Otherwise she did a great job.” — PSY120L Advanced Research Methods, Spring 2024.
“Very responsible TA and good educator, always open to questions and very willing to help students.” — PSY120L Advanced Research Methods, Spring 2024.
“I really liked Selin, she is an amazing, helpful and thorough TA. Thank you!” — PSY120L Advanced Research Methods, Spring 2024.
“Selin was friendly and approachable throughout all lab sections and a great TA. Her feedback was very thorough and helpful, and it is clear that she cares about helping her students improve. Thank you for this quarter, Selin!” — PSY120L Advanced Research Methods, Spring 2024.
“Selin was the best TA I had. She is very passionate, competent, approachable and helpful. — PSY120L Advanced Research Methods, Spring 2024.
“Overall you did a great job with the crazy amount of work she had us do. — PSY120L Advanced Research Methods, Spring 2024.
“I really appreciate that Selin didn't just read off the slides. She elaborated on all the content in the lab slides and gave clear answers to questions. Selin was approachable and seemed very knowledgeable about the material. — PSY10B Statistics, Fall 2024.
“I like how she asked us questions about what she should write when doing the code because it helped me stay on track. — PSY10B Statistics, Fall 2024.
